  I see 2.0 as an evolution of media options for consumers. People who write about Web 2.0 often seem to assume that technological change will have a fundamental and homogeneous impact on consumers - it doesn't. This misconception seems to be result of the cargo cult mentality, that assumes technological advances will necessarily change our habits and therefore supplant existing media formats.

  I see web 2.0, as the progression of web sites into interoperable services or platforms. There platforms enable users to build the web, in ever increasingly semantic ways, with ever more connections and collaboration (enabled by interoperability standards and the like). The next web movement, the semantic web (ontologies and so forth) will be enabled and fueled by humans, much like UCG did for user content (Computers sometimes have a hard time figuring out semantics of information, but humans can do it quickly, and reasonably effectively)

  For instance, a smart way to build yabb could have been to have a web services layer (which the yabb.com web UI would plug into). That way, the website itself could have been built off of these services. (You become your APIs first customer).
